Brian Anderson

Brian Anderson took up the position of Chief Superintendent on 3rd November 2008. His previous role was Detective Superintendent of Crime Management Services.

Brian joined the force as a cadet in November 1977 before being appointed as a constable stationed in Dumfries in January 1980. Postings at Locharbriggs and Dumfries CID followed before he joined the training department in 1991.

Between 1994 and 2003, Brian served in Dumfries crime management services where he was promoted twice, to Detective Inspector in 1997 and Detective Chief Inspector in 2001.

After a period as Acting Superintendent in Corporate Services, Brian was transferred to Dumfries in 2004 where he was the Area Operational Commander. From 2005 to 2006 he was the Acting Divisional Commander for Dumfries.

There have been many highlights in his career including achieving the Superintendents Endeavour Trophy for Probationary Constables in 1982. Brian has a BA in Police Studies and was part of the team in the Netherlands who arrested the two men accused of the Lockerbie bombing.

He has served as a Senior Investigating Officer on a number of serious criminal investigations and, in 2003, was commended for his role in Operation Emperor. This investigation resulted in more than 60 people being reported for drug offences.

More recently Brian received a commendation in 2005 for his role as operational commander of the force public order team, which formed part of the national police response to the G8 summit at Gleneagles.

Brian lives in Dumfries but grew up in Gatehouse of Fleet, where he attended both the primary and secondary schools. He was a keen footballer and has represented both the force and Scottish Police teams. He also played locally in the South of Scotland, Saturday Amateur and Sunday Amateur leagues. He also enjoys listening to music and attending live concerts. He is married and has two children who are both at university in Glasgow.
