Graeme was promoted to Superintendent at the end of 2008 and moved from Operational Commander for Galloway Division into the role of Divisional Commander for Dumfries Division.
Dumfries Divisional Commander is responsible for policing in the Annandale and Eskdale and Nithsdale areas of the region.
Graeme knows this division well. He joined Dumfries and Galloway Constabulary in 1988 and has worked in the division for the majority of his career. He has been stationed in Dumfries, Locharbriggs, Annan, Gretna and Lockerbie. So for over 20 years he has worked in the division he now commands.
During his career Graeme has mainly been an operational police officer, walking the beat, meeting members of the public and elected officials and dealing with everyday police duties such as street disorder and anti social behaviour. However he has also had stints as a crime prevention officer, police media officer, counter terrorism adviser and community safety co-ordinator. Graeme was also involved in public order roles during the G8 summit in Edinburgh.
Graeme holds a number of specialist roles; he is the Search Manager for missing people in Dumfries and Galloway, Senior Identification Manager and a Chemical Biological Radiological Nuclear (CBRN) officer. He also is part of the UK Disaster Victim Identification Team. He has previously been an authorized firearms officer and is still Firearms Commander for Dumfries and Galloway Constabulary.
Graeme has gained a number of further education awards. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminal Justice from Napier University and is currently working towards a Post Graduate Diploma in Disaster Victim Identification (Dundee University). He also holds a City and Guilds qualification in Search Management.
Graeme is married with two daughters and can often be seen driving his 1968 Morris Minor. He also runs the mountaineering club for Dumfries and Galloway Constabulary.
