The nature of police business means that Dumfries and Galloway Constabulary is in the news nearly every day. We often publish crime details to appeal for information asking for witnesses to come forward about cases we are dealing with.
The press office works with all local, regional and national newspapers, radio stations and television companies. They pass on press releases and detail to journalists and members of the public about all sorts of crime, road incidents, weather warnings and crime prevention advice.
The modern media plays an important role in passing on information and influencing public opinion. We understand this, and work hard with the media to let the people of Dumfries and Galloway know what is going on and keep them informed about policing issues in the region.
The press office is the first point of contact between the force and the media. The information we give to the reporters is then passed onto you, the reader, viewer or listener. It is one of the ways we get our messages out to you.
We always aim to be open, honest and accountable in what we say. The press office works hard to make sure that the media has access to the facts surrounding incidents, crime, investigations, policing operations and the results of our policing activity.
Based at police headquarters we are open Monday to Friday during office hours.
You may be able to help us with our appeals for information – and help play your part to keep Dumfries and Galloway a safe place to live. If you have information on one of our appeals in the media, contact us.
